Trying to fix a brake light. How do you fix a 'bad ground'?

I know very little about fixing cars. Upon changing the bulb in the taillight I see that it remains on and dim and then goes off when I hit the brake instead of getting brighter.

I was told that it was a bad ground and that was located on the socket. Well, I have no clue what that means. Can anyone explain how to fix this by myself. I'm trying to save money, naturally.

My vehicle is a 2000 Chevy S10 Pick-up Truck. 4-cly

Trying to fix a brake light. How do you fix a 'bad ground'?If there is any rust on the socket, clean it off. Look for, and tighten any screws that hold it in place, it usually grounds through the hold down bolts.

If that doesn't help, you'll need to take it in to be seen about.Trying to fix a brake light. How do you fix a 'bad ground'?If im right, your brake bulb has two terminals on the bottom, yes? Each bulb has three contacts, the two on the bottom are for power, brake light, and a brighter turn signal light. the sides of the bulb are the ground.

The negative terminal on the truck runes directly to the frame and body of the vehicle, providing a ground (Usually black wire) to all the electrical components.

If the bulb socket isn't contacting ground good enough, it could flicker, be very dim, or simply turn off.

Take out the tail light assembly, check the ground wire. Without being there, i cant really be much more helpfull, goodluckTrying to fix a brake light. How do you fix a 'bad ground'?first you must verify the problem, if is the bulb or the ground or the positive wire and the you proceed, pout a new bulb, then check the ground if it mack a good Kodak, usually is a black wire ,scrap the metal with sandpaper and tide the scrod, if you do all that, and is not working , then the problem is in the brake such.some cares have it to the end of brake cylinders and some at the pedal brake, is a small device
