What is wrong with my car? Engine shuts off when idiling...?

I have a 1997 Nissan Altima. The battery %26amp; alternator were changed recently. Battery has tested good. I also had a recent tuneup. My car will sometimes die while idling. When the car does die, the following lights turn on the dashboard: E-brake, oil light, %26amp; battery. I suspect the fuel pump is going bad because it will sometimes choke while accelerating. I have to rev the engine while in Neutral to keep the car from dying. What do you think? Also, how much should a repair be?What is wrong with my car? Engine shuts off when idiling...?fuel throttle or air sensor one of the two, good luck mate. What is wrong with my car? Engine shuts off when idiling...?go to authorized service in nissan

Sounds like carbon build-up in some of your emission control sensors. That is a lot more common these days with ethanol enriched fuel. If you can, find a gas station that has no ethanol in it's gas. That should help some. Also, go to one of the chain auto parts stores and ask for %26quot;Sea-Foam%26quot; fuel additive. Red Light Camera Tickets?

I was braking because of a red light and I thought one of my passenger said I needed to make a right to go onto the freeway at this light so before stopping full way, I changed lanes over to make a right only to enter into a shopping plaza. I didn't know there were cameras there, but I saw them flash. Would I get a ticket for that and how much would it be?Red Light Camera Tickets?Off the top of my head you could be citied if:

A traffic lane violation occurred.

If you failed to stop fully at the intersection prior to turning.

Is a 2010 Nissan GTR V-Spec a certainty?

I was thinking of picking up a 2009 Nissan GTR as a track car, however, with all the rumors about a lighter version coming out in 2010 I may wait. Since I will use the car mainly on track, it wouldn't make sense to buy the GTR if the V-spec comes out soon after. Is it, however, a certainty that we will get the V-spec here in the US? Also, does anyone know any details regarding the car, I am particularly interested in the amount of weight savings, hp increase, suspension/brake changes, whether it will have rare seats, how much lighter it will be (some sources claim 150lbs lighter, others 300lbs), etc. Also, what will the price premium be over the standard GTR?

ThanksIs a 2010 Nissan GTR V-Spec a certainty?A newer model is set to come out over the next couple of years with a better performance and gadgets.

Nissan claims a top speed of 310 km/h (193 mph) and various sources have achieved 0-97 km/h (0-60 mph) times of between 3.3 and 3.8 seconds[18][19][20]. Edmunds.com achieved a standing 1/4-mile time of 11.6 s at 190 km/h (118 mph) using the GT-R's complex launch control system. Edmunds also speculated that faster times may be achievable on better road conditions than provided by the runway which they used for the test.[21] Evo magazine achieved a 0-100-0 mph time of 13.9 seconds, one tenth of a second quicker than a Corvette Z06 tested under identical conditions .

The GT-R has been reported by both the automotive press and sources within Nissan as being harder to modify than the previous Skyline GT-Rs, due to the supposedly %26quot;untuneable%26quot; ECU, drivetrain accessories, and the design of the turbochargers (which have been integrated into exhaust manifolds). Nissan has also safeguarded the car against modification with sensors alerting the dealer of any performance modifications and nullifying the warranty. However, it has been reported that Nissan has given access to the car to select tuners. Central 20,[34] Mine's, MCR,[35] HKS, and Top Secret have been seen testing modified GT-Rs with the former two having conducted tests at the Tsukuba Circuit.[36]

In a review by Motor Trend editor Scott Kanemura, it was revealed that GPS system fitted to the GT-R would remove the 180-kilometer per hour (112 mph) speed limiter when the car arrives at a race track, but only on tracks approved by Nissan. In addition, the GPS sensor doesn't automatically remove the limiter by itself, it has to be manually changed by navigating through a series of menus on the GT-R's touch screen. After leaving the track, owners are required to head on over to a Nissan High Performance Center where a $1000 safety check is performed to avoid losing the warranty. A sensor mounted on the valve stem, causes an error code to appear if the GT-R is driven with aftermarket wheels. Modification to the intake system also causes problems with the ECU. However, Nissan confirmed the GPS check is not implemented in American models.

The car itself went on to win the opening race of the 2008 Super GT season at Suzuka scoring a one-two finish for Nissan.[30] The dominant performance of the GT-R has led to speculation that restrictions will be imposed on the car to allow for more competition.

Ok so When i first bought the explorer only one headlight worked on low, both did on high beam. The brake lights worked fine a month ago when i bought it too. Recently my brake lights stopped working all at once. So i checked fuses replaced brake switch and changed bulbs. None of that did anything. So now i am driving without brake lights and i hate it. Anyways well the back windows dont roll down from the back seat door button. i can roll them down from driver seat. Ok well two electrical problems so far. Well today i was driving and my headlight on the driver side went out and the other one will only work on Bright. I got new HID's that i want to install but to me this car sounds like it has major electrical problems. What can i do to fix these problems and how much do you think a shop would charge and how long it would take to fix these issues. What do you think is causing the issues? I drive a 2001 Ford Taurus, is all this recommended auto work necessary?

A few days ago I took my '01 Taurus into the dealership for an oil change and had asked them to check my brakes because I suspected I needed new brake pads.

After the oil change, the auto guy called me and said that my brake pads were all down to 1mm and that I may also need to replace one front rotor.

I called a few days later to get a quote for those replacements and the gal said she would type up a quote pulling the information from what was put in my file.

My jaw dropped to the floor when all of the following was included on my quote:

    -Both front brake pads (expected)

    -Both rear brake pads (expected)

    -Front rotors (est. $198)

    -Rear drums (est. $215)

    -Rear shoes (est. $58)

    -Wheel cylinders (est. $104)

    -Hardware kit (est. $14)

-Labor estimated to be 3.8 hrs and charge of $272

    Background on my car:

    - 2001 Ford Taurus SES with 89,700 miles. All new tires last fall, always keep up on oil changes, all fluid levels, etc. Last fall my rear springs were replaced and I had to replace the timing belt gasket after a leak had started prior. The auto guy on the phone this week said, %26quot;everyone was impressed at how well you take care of your car. It's in perfect condition, except your brakes are low.%26quot;

There are NO leaks of brake fluid (or any fluid from beneath the hood or from the rear).

I know that sometimes rotors warp and have to be replaced, I've read that between 100,000-150,000 miles the rear drums MAY need to be replaced, and if your brake fluid is leaking, your wheel cylinders may need to be replaced.

My brake light never came on and there are no leaks. Should all of this auto work be necessary?- really? Or is the autobody trying to take me for another $940 bill?

Please HELP if you can!! I have some driving trips coming up this summer and need to get whatever fixed as soon as possible, but don't want to be charged an arm and a leg if it's not necessary.

THANK YOU in advance!!!I drive a 2001 Ford Taurus, is all this recommended auto work necessary?First and foremost, there is no way your brake pads are down to only 1mm thick so the dude is off his rocker from the get go. Not only would the brake pad lining break up well before that point (relatively brittle stuff) but the metal studs that the brake lining is sintered (manufacturing process) around to help hold it to the metal backing of the pad would have long been exposed to the rotor and your car would have been making ungodly noises every time you hit the brake as the metal studs dug into the metal rotor face which you made no mention of in your posted question so im assuming thats not the case

-Front rotors (est. $198) - maybe, but there are two easy ways to check. run your finger along the rotor and feel for grooves...grooves being present will eat the new pads up at a much faster rate than a flat surface. Another way to check is most rotors have a minimum thickness specification cast into them somewhere. You can check this with calipers or even a ruler if need be. If the rotor is too thin, there is not enough metal present to handle the massive heat generated by braking and they are much more prone to warpage

-Rear drums (est. $215) - negative. Drum brake setups dont stop as well as discs but typically last FOREVER. You could also check the drums with the groove test I mentioned earlier. I had an 88 Bronco II that I put drums/brake shoes on that lasted 150k+ miles before they needed replacing

-Rear shoes (est. $58) - same as above...should not need replacing unless you drive like you are Mario freaking Andretti

-Wheel cylinders (est. $104) - typically the only reason to replace these is because they are leaking fluid. Take a flashlight and look for leaks on the inside face of the tire and back side of the axle flange (end of the axle housing where the rotor sits) assembly. Or does a 01 Taurus have IRS? I dont remember...either way brake fluid doesnt evaporate quickly at all so more than likely you would be able to see residue or some leftover evidence of a leak if one or both are bad. If you see fluid leaking out they need replacing. If your master cylinder stays full and you arent adding fluid, chances are they are fine

-Hardware kit (est. $14) - probably the springs and such that go with the new drum shoe setup but Im not exactly sure to comment reliably on this unless i knew exactly what it is

-Labor estimated to be 3.8 hrs and charge of $272 - sounds about right...how do they sleep at night?! :)

Good luck with your choice and hope your car lasts for many more miles!I drive a 2001 Ford Taurus, is all this recommended auto work necessary?Only authorize replacement of the brake shoes, brake pads, only cut the rotors and drums, do not replace the wheel cylinders, only bleed them, do not replace the rotors unless they are indeed not true, Replace hardware kit for drums.

you can check all the intprices at http://www.autozone.com just browse like the internetI drive a 2001 Ford Taurus, is all this recommended auto work necessary?First of all look at your quote. You are not going to have rear pads and shoes, its one or the other. Your car has rear drums and shoes.

ALWAYS replace rotors in pairs, if you don't you may get braking issues due to the rotor surfaces not being the same. If the rotors are not rusted too bad they may be able to resurface them instead of replacing them.

I have seen a lot of wheel cylinders freeze up or leak. Ask them to show you why it needs to be replaced.

Always a good idea to replace the hardware kit when doing rear shoes. If you don't you take the chance of a spring rusting and breaking that will create more problems. They may be able to resurface the drums if not under spec.

Remove the rear rotors and pads from your quote and recalculate.

any questions feel free to contact me.

Bicycle's depreciation value is much worse than cars.

Your Royale %26quot;fugi%26quot; or fuji is a piece of junk, unless you make good use of it.

Use it for commuting or working out after you get it fixed.

Because more than likely, you will have a difficult time looking for someone willing to buy it from you.

You may have some trouble finding tires, which is why you probably mentioned changing wheels. Everything now has standardized on 700c.

Horn Fuse Keeps Blowing; It started with a stressed out Horn?

My horn fuse burns out every time I try to blow horn.

Its an automatic 97 Honda Accord SE.

Sequence of Events leading to the problem: -

    1) Security alarm went off and the horn was screaming continuously

    2) While I was trying to figure out how to disarm my alarm, at some point the horn stopped working

    3) After I finally disarmed the security system, I realized couldn't get the car to change gears from Parking to Drive.

    4) After some research, I realized that my horn fuse has blown off. (The same fuse is tied to rear brake lights. The car wouldn't let me shift gears while the tail lights are inoperable. Its a security feature I guess).

    5) Changing the fuse lets me shift gears and drive. But the fuse blows off the moment I press on the horn - And I am stranded again!!

    The wiring diagram :-

Fuse is serially connected to [ (a) and (b) in parallel ]

    (a) Horn Relay-%26gt;Clockspring-%26gt;Horn switch-%26gt;Ground

    (b) Relay Slave-%26gt;Horn-%26gt;Ground

What happened? Any possible fix?Horn Fuse Keeps Blowing; It started with a stressed out Horn?A very strange problem indeed. I am not familiar with Hondas, but I would find it very strange for the horn and brake lights to be tied to the same fuse. If that fuse is preventing operation of your car then I would suspect a wiring problem of some kind (a bad ground somewhere as previously stated in another post is very likely). You may try disconnecting the wire from your horn(s) to see if that prevents the fuse from being blown when you try to honk your horn, then you know your horn is the problem. If that doesn't change blowing the fuse, then your problem is likely in the wiring harness where some bare wires may be shorting out somewhere, very hard to track down. Good luck.Horn Fuse Keeps Blowing; It started with a stressed out Horn?Check that ground. Run another one if you need to...you might want to run another ground just in case. Simply splice another wire and run it to a piece of bare metal connected to the car. Check for bare wires anywhere along the route as it could be a short. Electric tape works wonders in this situation.Horn Fuse Keeps Blowing; It started with a stressed out Horn?check your battery terminal connections. I had the same problem with my 2001 Grand Prix. It has a aftermarket alarm system no it. If the alarm system is not getting enough power it will lock up the shifter so you cant get it out of park. A bad connection will also cause your alarm to go off. Clean the battery terminals and the cables off.

Where is shift solenoid 1997 mustang?

Auto trans. Won't shift out of park. Brake lights work. Tried the trick on wiki about the order in which to turn key, etc. Won't shift out of park. Dealer says it's probably a bad solenoid but I can't move it out of the garage to bring it in. Have solenoid. Can't find reference to where it physically is, to change it. have 1997-2000 Mustang 'Service Repair' manual. Does not tell how to replace. Ideas?Where is shift solenoid 1997 mustang? That's not what's normally referred to as a %26quot;shift%26quot; solenoid. That would be on or in the trans if it's an electronic shift model. It's called something like an %26quot;interlock%26quot; solenoid. Should be located under the console, near the bottom of the shift lever.

Many cars also have a panel so you can access and bypass it (each time you need to shift out of park), so you don't have to pay for a tow to get it to the mechanic.

How often should you be looking in the rear view and overhead mirror when driving?

    a) every 30 seconds when your are driving

    b) every time you are about to brake

    c) every time you are coming to a red light stop.

    d) every time you are about to change lanes

    e) when you are backing up in reverse

    e) all these answers

    f) my answer is _________How often should you be looking in the rear view and overhead mirror when driving?I have timed myself -- unless something extremely intersting is happening forward I am glancing in my mirrors every 5 seconds.

When you are changing lanes the thing to remember is that mirrors can only tell you if something is there. Mirrors *cannot* tell you that nothing is there. If the mirrors are clear you must turn your head and actually look to verify that the space you wish to move into is clear. How often should you be looking in the rear view and overhead mirror when driving?Constantly. You should be glancing into ALL the mirrors every few seconds so you know what's going on around you at all times.

P.S. I also have %26quot;bubble%26quot; mirrors that eliminate blind spots. How often should you be looking in the rear view and overhead mirror when driving?Yep all of these though for (f) I look more often than every 30 seconds, prob every 15 to 20 seconds. How often should you be looking in the rear view and overhead mirror when driving?More times than you talk or text on your cell phone while you drive, HAHA.

I would say all of the above. How often should you be looking in the rear view and overhead mirror when driving?e) all of these.

How much does it cost to replace an engine seal?

Ok, I bought a 1998 Mits Eclipse. I was told everything should be fine with it, the guy who sold it to me said his mom was driving it and just decided she wanted a new car. Now it's leaking oil from in between the engine and the tranny, my brother said it's most likely an engine seal. I like cars, but I don't know that much about how much this stuff costs. I am spending $1000 just on the car, then I bought new air, oil and fuel filters, plus the oil for the oil change. I may have to buy new brakes, they are rusted, my brother said he's going to try to salvage the ones on there first. And now the check engine light has come on. I have to completely sanitize the interior considering I had to strip all the fabric parts (seats and carpet) out so I could bomb it because of how many bugs took up residence in the car in the 11 months it was sitting. Sorry, had to gripe about all the other stuff wrong. Does anyone know how much the engine seal is going to cost me?How much does it cost to replace an engine seal?yes putting the seal in parts and labor will cost you about 600 bucks probably ,that's the most you should have to pay for it,they have to pull the transmission out to do this, its a big job on that one,,you might wind up with more in that car than you want to have in it,good luck with it.How much does it cost to replace an engine seal?sorry before you go to the new seal try adding a good quality seal conditioner to the oil. some of the seals can be pretty tricky to get to anymore so it could be pretty pricyHow much does it cost to replace an engine seal? The seal is relatively inexpensive, it's the labor that is high. Do it yourself. How much does it cost to replace an engine seal? The engine seal should run about 1200 euros. I just had mine changed as well. But i drive a 1997 Volvo, hatchback. Hope this helps, Good luckHow much does it cost to replace an engine seal?poor girl!!!! if its not leaking to bad dont worry about it.You cant do it your self and do not put any oil conditioner all that does is actually nothing it can mess up the bearings, and cause eng damage seen it before. The fix for the sea; at moms and pops shop should be like 300 bucks.I had bugs in my car i called the bug terminator he killed them.that was awesome! i tried the bombs my self no luck and the smoke will in your interior. It stinks and loosens interior glue like headliner and stuff.Dont worry it s going to be bad *** car when you are done. How much does it cost to replace an engine seal? That $10 rear main seal is located between the engine and the transmission. The least destructive way to replace it is drop the transmission. You are looking at 6 - 10 hours of labor, and it should cost you lot of $ to fix this. How much does it cost to replace an engine seal?TRY THIS PRODUCT AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTION.

i have a 2001 kia rio and it wont shift out of park i think the netrual safety switch is bad but i just read about the brake light switch if it is not working it wont let u shift either and how hard is it to change the netrual safety switchHow hard is changing the netrual safety switch? The only thing that the neutral safety switch does is to allow your car to start only in park or neutral. You are talking about the shift interlock device which is indeed tied into the brake switch. Make sure you have brake lights. If you dont the brake switch on the brake pedal is bad otherwise check the connections and the solenoid under the cover that is attached to the shifter. There is a little switch that allows you to shift otherwise if you want to shift now so you can move the car. There is usually a little hole with a cover on the shifter cover next to the PRNDL. Take the cover off and put your key or something in the little hole until hit the switch and you will be able to shift out of parkHow hard is changing the netrual safety switch? It's an easy job on a rear wheel drive car, but don't know about front wheelers. Probably the hardest part will be finding it..How hard is changing the netrual safety switch?it aint the nss its the brake light/there should be a release somewhere close forget the nss/get after fuses etc for brakesHow hard is changing the netrual safety switch?those two switches are just that switches, NOT a shift interlock device. that is what you should be looking up.

My abs and check engine light stays on 2001 Ford Sport Trac- anyone know the fix, or had this happen as well?

No apparent reason, just came on one day. My buddy has a computer that you can hook up to your rig and trouble shoot it - changed some fuses and tinkered around with things but had no luck. He thought it might be brake dust build up on whatever sensor that initiates the light - but haven't found or seen anything like that yet from underneath the rig? Would really like to cure the problem, without paying for a cure through the nose, we all know how that goes. I think the ABS light is also making the check engine light stay on - at least my thought. Have had it in for it's 75000 mile check up and they said all looked well - but it wasn't at a ford Dealer. Guess I should have paid the money and done it right with Ford - that is my current awnser - you got a better one?My abs and check engine light stays on 2001 Ford Sport Trac- anyone know the fix, or had this happen as well? The abs light is for brakes...check the fluid or how much wear is on them. The check engine light could be anything from your gas cap being loose to some thing more serious. If you have an AutoZone or other parts store near you, they can hook up a diagnostic computer to your car and it will tell what's wrong with it for free and then you will know exactly what's wrong before you spend money on it.My abs and check engine light stays on 2001 Ford Sport Trac- anyone know the fix, or had this happen as well? One of the most likely problems that year had was the differential ABS sensor. What codes were found? My abs and check engine light stays on 2001 Ford Sport Trac- anyone know the fix, or had this happen as well?as someone else has suggested what computer code was found??? unless you have found the correct codes there is little your friend can do! so amy i suggest a trip to %26quot;ford%26quot; had a 4d truck all sorts of trouble tried same thing, no go! even the Ford dealer was scratching their heads, One day, it dawned on my wife the idea, that maybe %26quot; the computer%26quot; has gone nuts! guess what %26quot;exactly%26quot;!!!!!! i would just bite my do it thyself and hot foot it!My abs and check engine light stays on 2001 Ford Sport Trac- anyone know the fix, or had this happen as well?it probably and O2 sensor my stang throws a code that says it running to lean then will turn around and say its running to rich.. all cause of an oxygen sensor

Why do have to hold my key in the ignition of my 1995 Chevy Corsica 6cyl for it to run?

I have a 1996 chevy corsica and its almost at 130,000 miles. the service engine light comes on and never goes off (it used too though) it doesn't flash, it just stays on. I recently had the spark plugs changed, new brakes, oil change, and had the fuel system flushed, but the light is still on. Now when I drive it I have to drive with one hand on the wheel and one on the key to keep it turned into the ignition because if I let it go, it will completely cut off. What could be the cause of this? and How much am I looking at spending? Any help is better than no help. Thanks

My check engine like use to come on at certain points in my drive like 10 miles from home stay on for 10 miles and go back off. About a month ago I got my brakes done and an oil change it's been nothing but headaches since! Starter went bad changed that. I was idling really high figured that out.. Now this next issue is slightly harder and no one can figure it out! I have the car it acts up it stalls makes a ton of noises. I have my husband come check it out and it's fine. I think it's my transmission but can't be sure and well with the way the cost is of everything.. You can figure out the rest...

but good luck with your problem buddy hope it works well for you

How much do you think it would cost for my car to pass inspection?

    I have

    1 headlight out

    1 tail-light out

Might need brakes in the front

Might need 4 new (or used tire)

    Oil change

    Tune up

What exactly is a tune up? ThanksHow much do you think it would cost for my car to pass inspection?Headlight - $12

    Taillight - $12

    Front Brakes - $120-200

    Tires - $250-300

    Oil Change - $30

    Tune up - $90

A tune up is when they change the spark plugs, spark plug wires, oil, and all fluids.

In order to pass inspection you'll only need the lights, brakes, and tires fixed. Take it to an inspection station and let them tell you what needs to be fixed first...many will not check your brakes or tires. How much do you think it would cost for my car to pass inspection?a tune up is replacing worn parts and dirty filters and dirty oil.. the headlight is 6dollars.. taillight bulb 1 dollar front brakes 100 replacing everything two calipers two rotors ane pads. you do the laborl buy good tires no used.. four tires 60 each the premium 240for tires.. oil change do it yourself 5 dollars. tune up new plugs change air cleaner. 16dollars.. add this up and do it yourself ok.. new tires make a good impression at the inspection station..How much do you think it would cost for my car to pass inspection?i just had to do most of this..

i'm not sure on pricing where you live

but my headlight was 8 dollars

not sure about the tail light =/

front brakes were around 20 dollars

my tires were used and still 200 dollars

oil change around 25 35 with changing the air filter (which did wonders for gas milleage)

    and tune-up was 100 dollars.

i also didn't pay any labor or at all.

    good luck

  • My brakes sometimes lose power when at a full stop - how can I fix this?

I drive a 1999 Toyota Tacoma with ~ 45,000 miles, mostly in great shape (low miles). I just had it through the garage twice (once for oil / transmission fluid change and once for a check engine light that turned out to be air sensors). But there are two nagging issue that the mechanics have yet to identify:

When I'm at a full stop, foot resting on the brake, the brakes will let go and the car will roll forward if the radiator fan comes on or anything else begins drawing enough electricity. It seems the car doesn't have enough power to go around.

(The only other problem with the truck is that the gas pedal is a bit sticky when you try to press it sometimes. This isn't a big deal, but I'm not sure if that could be somehow related.)

Any idea how I could fix this problem? Is it possible a new battery or cleaning my batter connections may help? Thanks for your help!My brakes sometimes lose power when at a full stop - how can I fix this? The brakes could be a leaky check valve, faulty booster, or your master cylinder is developing problems.

Electrical is more than likely the alternator diodes.

Gas pedal problem probably requires replacing the throttle cable as it must be kinked or damaged somewhere. My brakes sometimes lose power when at a full stop - how can I fix this?it should still be on woranty, i would go to the dealer and tell them about all these problems, a new toyota should not have that many problems. My brakes sometimes lose power when at a full stop - how can I fix this?most braking systems run off engine vaccum the brake booster draws power off the intake. at a lower idle there is less vaccum in the engine. a power draw from the alternator will take more away from the engine look into power loss at the charging system then if thats not it try checking engine vaccum or check for any type of leaks in the braking system as far as the gas pedal sticking check the throttlebody see if it s carboned up often times that will cause it to stick. My brakes sometimes lose power when at a full stop - how can I fix this?Electrical problems are NOT related to braking system! Your master cylinder may have leaky cups, but my first guess would be the vacuum booster has a seal leak!,,:-)=My brakes sometimes lose power when at a full stop - how can I fix this?sounds like the lines might have to be bled. get the air out of them.

How long should brake pads last on a Pontiac Sunfire?

My front brake pads were replaced about 30,000 miles ago. I took my car in for an oil change and basic inspection at an auto shop, and they said that the front pads are 80% worn, and the rotors are grooved, and the front pads and rotors all need to be replaced. They are estimating $250 total for this repair. This seems too soon for them to be so worn since I do mostly highway driving and I'm light on the brakes. The brake pads are not making any noise yet. If the pads and rotors are indeed this damaged, shouldn't my brakes be making an awful noise? How long should brake pads last on a Pontiac Sunfire?30,000 miles is excellent for a front wheel drive car. My best advice is to have another shop take a look and give you an estimate. If you aren't feeling anything wrong with the brakes it doesn't mean the pads can't be worn. But you may not need to buy new rotors. How long should brake pads last on a Pontiac Sunfire?minumum 1 yearHow long should brake pads last on a Pontiac Sunfire?I have a Sunfire too and mine lasted a lot longer...I highly recommend getting a second opinion. I did and it turned out that what one mechanic told me didn't need to be done. Saved me a lot of money. How long should brake pads last on a Pontiac Sunfire?Noise isn't usual until damage has been done.

It does seem a little short on mileage, but it depends on the quality of the last pads installed. If you had a %26quot;budget%26quot; or %26quot;Special%26quot; brake service, they may indeed be due.

Locate a quality ASE Certified shop and ask for an inspection and estimate. You may be charged, but they may waive the cost of the inspection if you contract with the shop for work. How long should brake pads last on a Pontiac Sunfire? You state your brake pads were replaced 30k ago, my question is did they also replaced the brake rotors? If they did not than you may indeed need to replaced both the brake pads and rotors after 30k miles. It also depends on what type of brakes parts they installed and how many miles are on the rest of the brake parts. You will also use up your front pads if your rear brakes are not adjusted right. How long should brake pads last on a Pontiac Sunfire?Depend only on YOUR driving habits. But 30,000 miles is pretty close. They will not make noise if sensors are not touching yet. $ 250.00 is damn cheap for rotors, pads and labor. How long should brake pads last on a Pontiac Sunfire?First of all your brake pads on front will wear out about 3-4 times as fast.

Now 30K doesn't sound the worst, - it depends on how much you use the brakes, and how fast you try to stop! Mine last a whole lot longer, but I let friction and air perssure slow down the car a lot before I apply brakes, and I also use the gears on (my) std. trans car. My wifes is an automatic, and she gets even better miles on hers, because she doesn't push her car as hard as I do mine , and she usually drives like she has all day to go places! She drives with traffic ok,- but maintains about 8 car lengths between her and others, so she uses brakes very sparingly!

$250 sounds pretty steep, -- I think %26quot;Brake Check%26quot; advertises $59.95 per axle (extra parts on top of course). An %26quot;axle%26quot; is both wheels on one end!

Have any mechanical aptitude? Learn how to do them yourself! The pads cost from about $18 - $30 depending on what kind of %26quot;brake performance%26quot; you are looking for. Obviously the %26quot;high performance%26quot; ones are going to cost a lot more! In normal use they usually last a whole lot longer, - because you don't really need these %26quot;heavy duty%26quot; brakes for normal driving! As far as the %26quot;groves%26quot; go, - if they aren't causing any propblems now, - they won't cause any problems later! This means that they just aren't %26quot;like new%26quot;. If the brakes don't %26quot;chatter%26quot; or %26quot;pulsate%26quot; the brake pedal - I woudln't worry about it! The new pads will wear a little faster till they are %26quot;seated%26quot; in a %26quot;wear pattern%26quot;, - after which they will wear

at normal rate! --- Acutally if you think about it, the area of braking contact on pads is slightly increased, - (crumple a piece of paper and see how much less area it covers) it still has the same outside area as before! So if you could smooth the disk out, it would be bigger in diameter (or larger braking area)!

You can probably put new pads on in an hour or less! This of course depends on whether you have worn them down till the backing pads are grinding on disks! If all the parts are good otherwise, I can probably put them on in a half hour or less!

Go to an %26quot;AutoZone type%26quot; store and buy a %26quot;Haynes Auto Repair Manual%26quot;, and it has all the information on how to do the job. This will cost you less than $20. It is a complerte maintainance manual, and shows you how to do just about anything on car,-- if you want to do it yourself! How long should brake pads last on a Pontiac Sunfire?Your brake pads should have what is called a wear indicator, which is a clip that is attached to the brake pad, which upon wear, comes into contact with the rotor, making a loud, screeching noise. This noise is an indication that the pads need to be replaced. With this said, the wear of the brake pads can fluctuate, depending on several factors: 1) Your driving style. Alot of heavy braking can cause premature wear of the pads. 2) the type of material that your brake pads are made of. Organic pads tend to wear faster, where semi-metallic pads create fast stopping, but wear quickly, tend to damage the rotors over the course of time, and emit a black dust that you will quickly notice on your front wheels. Ceramic pads offer the best of both worlds, they are %26quot;quiet%26quot; and have little dust, and cause less wear to the rotors. I agree, with an earlier response, I would take the car to a reputable mechanic, and have them inspected. Many dealerships and service centers offer a free brake inspection, I would also ask to be present when the inspection is conducted. If they will not allow you to watch and ask questions, politely leave and don't look back. If they do welcome your presence and questions, look for excessive dust, and determine if the wear indicator clip, at the bottom, is even with the friction material on the brake pad. (Note: the caliper in which the pads are installed may be rusted and dirty. This is common, and in no way affects your quality of braking) Most mechanics are honest, but a few assume that you don't know the difference and are looking to sell you a set of pads, at a high labor rate. Being informed is the best savings and safety option that you can take with you when having work performed on your vehicle. I wish you the best.

    My brakes are acting weird?

I was driving home and coming to a red light, pressed on my brakes a little, and nothing happened. I had to press them all the way to the floor in order to get them to work. Do i just need the brake fluid changed or is thisa bigger problem. And how much will this cost me. I am a poor college student. My brakes are acting weird?make sure your fluid is full if it is then its the master cylinder what make model and year is your car and i'll give you the price of the part and a link to it.My brakes are acting weird?can be a couple things, master cylinder, or a line leaking. Pump the brakes and see if the pedal seems to come up higher. then check your brake fluid level. if your fluid is full, then more likely master cylinder, if the breaks did not pump up and you are low on fluid, then possible you have a line leaking. check for brake fluid on the ground around each tire.My brakes are acting weird?Go and have a mechanic diagnose the brakes before you're a poor DEAD college student. Changing brake fluid won't make the car stop better. Brake pads, rotors, and possibly calipers if they are frozen. Master cylinder is possible, check the fluid. My brakes are acting weird?you might need brake fluid or if you have rear drum brakes they might need adjusted.it also could be the master cylinder.

My husband survived a bad accident and overnight his eye color changed from deep army green 2 light blue, how?

In Sept of last year, a drunk driver pulled in front of my husband's loaded dump truck. Though he broke his leg in two places trying to stop the truck, the driver and passenger of the car were killed and his truck flipped over the embankment, flew into the air with it's load of red sand and came to rest upside down after crushing the cab beyond recognition. All that had kept him from being ejected was a chain he'd happened to have left in his truck which wrapped somehow around his legs and around the brake pedal. Barely alive, he was cut out with the jaws of life with a punctured lung, bone chips, broken ribs, and his broken thigh. Before the accident, his eyes were a deep, dark, army green, just like our youngest daughters. When he was put in ICU we noticed his eyes were light blue as they are today. No one can tell me how this has happened, not even the doctors. When I married him 15 years ago, his mother had cat eyes - one blue, one vivid green, now both of hers are blue too.My husband survived a bad accident and overnight his eye color changed from deep army green 2 light blue, how?Hello! Sorry to hear about this accident and thank God your husband's alright! It sounds like the trauma changed his eye color. If his eye color went back to normal, then I would say it's just the rise in blood pressure, but since it's still the same, it was probably due to the fact that the trauma was so intense. Check out iridology. It will explain things better for you. As for the mother-in-law, it makes sense that the green eye eventually turned blue. For some people, their eye color gets lighter as they age..my own Chinese Mother had Medium Brown eyes when I was a child, when I was a teen, they looked lighter. then a few years later, I saw Green flecks in her eyes. A few years after that, the Green flecks have turned to silver and the rest of her eye color is now Hazel. She says sometimes she sees Green and Blue in them..But on the otherhand, she's been seeing floaters, so she might have a type of Glaucoma related to iridial pigment loss. Well, back to your mother-in-law..did the other blue eye get lighter? Both of them should've gotten lighter at the same time. Was she using any eyedrops? Some prescription eyedrops can change the eye color gradually, mostly to a darker color, but on some people, their eyes get lighter. Glaucoma drops do this. Hope I was able to help somewhat. Good Luck! : )My husband survived a bad accident and overnight his eye color changed from deep army green 2 light blue, how?I have not had any trauma but my eyes change color with my mood. The colors range from blue to green to gray. When I am in pain they change to blue or gray.

I am glad he survived. I hope he makes a full recovery. I am sure though he has a long road ahead. Much luck to you both.My husband survived a bad accident and overnight his eye color changed from deep army green 2 light blue, how?this seems to be an autonomic reaction to the trauma. even though I cannot explain how this happens, it probably occurred from trauma from his mother too.

they must have some genetic trait they share to have this happen to them after this accident.

I'm happy to hear he survived though. My husband survived a bad accident and overnight his eye color changed from deep army green 2 light blue, how? This is gonna sound really dumb but here goes theres a possibility that all along your familiy members had hazel eyes and were just representing in the colors previously known to everyone on sight, who knows exactly why they cahnged upon the injury my sons eyes were green for 3 years and one day they turned blue, a year later there green again, mystical huh?

Went through an amber light but it just changed to red as i was passing through it, its a pellican crossing?

Im very very very worried about it, it had cameras on the top because it was a pellican crossing, so I think it was on a red light when i passed over it? Will I get caught, i was going fast but there were no cars behind me so I could have absolutely slammed the brakes on but probably skidded in the process?

Do not enter an intersection on anything but green, then you won't have to spend any time worrying about things.

If it was a red light camera, it takes your picture if you enter on yellow or red, so you may be getting a ticket in the mail. How long is the time delay? All the time the light is green. When it goes amber the delay is done.Went through an amber light but it just changed to red as i was passing through it, its a pellican crossing?Hopefully it's taught you to be more careful when you approach pedestrian crossings - you might have killed someone. • Traffic ticket help: parked blocking an allie or driveway?

    Hi,

Im 17 yrs and just recieved my first (and hopefully last) ticket. Heres what happened....

I was driving northbound in heavy traffic. I was approaching an intersection and the traffic light was green; so i proceeded to cross the intersection. Cars cut into this lane because this is the only lane to turn left. I made it under the light with my foot on the brake and my car barely rolling. The light ahead was green aswell but traffic was not flowing. In the oposing lane (southbound) there was a big dump truck( i quess his light had changed and it was his turn to go) because he started honking and cussing at me. i kept on looking ahead barely rolling. I was only in his way for 3 seconds i counted and my traffic began to flow. (might i add that the only reason i was blocking him was because he was driving a big dumptruck and could not make the wide turn he needed)had it been a passenger vehicle they would have had space. When i made it to the light to take my turn i saw a motorcycle cop put on his lights. I made the turn and proceeded in my lane. He signaled for me to pull over. He asked for liscence and registration. At this point i was very scared i didnt know why i had been stopped. And the officer did not tell me why i had been stopped. As i handed him my registration i asked him why i was stopped. And he told me i was blocking the intersection (which i wasnt). I tried to explain to him the circumstance and told him that i didnt know and apologized and asked if i could please just have a warning. He told me %26quot;no, definately not you will be recieving a citation.%26quot;. I took the ticket thanked the officer(dont ask me why i was very scarred and was trying to be as calm and polite as i could be) and went on my way.

Later when i was looking at the ticket it said parked blocking an ally or driveway which is contrary to what the officer told me i first recieved the ticket for (blocking an intersection). I wasnt parked and was in a congested intersection not an ally. Is this legal??

i am going to plea not guilty and need help with this.

the officer didnt tell me why he stopped me (i had to ask him)

    the ticket is wrong

and he didnt tell me how to better handle the situation.

I need help with this what do you all think?

    Thanks, Matt

ps oh and i live in texas incase you need to know what state laws are

thanks again Traffic ticket help: parked blocking an allie or driveway?Hello Matt. I am reading your question differently from the above posters. Yes, technically, you are not supposed to enter an intersection unless it is clear enough to go through ( also called gridlocking ).

What I am reading differently here is the citation itself. It sounds as though the Officer cited you incorrectly. What you are cited for is a non moving violation. I am NOT familiar with Texas law, but here in Ohio, if an Officer uses an incorrect code, it is thrown out of court for improper codes. The courts here are not allowed to amend a ticket as a poster above me says, which may be entirely true in Texas.

I would suggest appearing in court and pleading not guilty. Explain what happened to the Judge and respectfully tell him you were not parked , but driving through an intersection. It will then be up to the Judge to say what Texas law is.

Best of luck to you and I hope this is usefulTraffic ticket help: parked blocking an allie or driveway? If you were blocking any private or public driveway/intersection in traffic you broke the law.Traffic ticket help: parked blocking an allie or driveway? If he gave you a ticket for illegal parking, it should NOT be counted as a moving violation. You should not get any points on your license just a fine. Sounds like the officer is giving you a break. He wanted you to know you did something wrong and wanted to make sure you received a little something more than a warning but gave you a ticket with fewer bad consequences.

Pay the fine, don't enter an intersection unless there is room to move all the way through it. In California that is around a $200 fine.Traffic ticket help: parked blocking an allie or driveway? While your situation is very common, you are technically guilty. The actual law in most states is that you are not permitted to ENTER the intersection until you are assured you will be able to fully EXIT the intersection.

As for the wrong charge on the ticket, they will be able to amend that in court. That assumes it is actually an incorrect charge. It is possible the same code section covers both intersections and alleys/driveways.

I suggest appearing in court, entering a 'no contest' plea, explaining what happened and apologizing. As this was your first offense, the judge may give you a break.

    Thanks, Matt

ps oh and i live in texas incase you need to know what state laws are

    thanks again

Traffic ticket help: parked in an ally or driveway?1, Your story is an admission of blocking an intersection, so you have admitted the necessary facts to be convicted of that violation. Do not repeat these facts unless specifically asked in court.

    2. The citation may have an %26quot;administrative error%26quot; if the officer marked the wrong violation, and the magistrate or judge can simply ignore the difference, have the ticket changed, or have the officer issue a violation for the correct charge while you all stand there waiting. Not helpful if you have to come back on another date.

    3. Plead not guilty, hope for the best in court. The officer will testify (if he shows up) that you were blocking the intersection, the judge will believe him. You say, %26quot;I was not charged with that and I was not blocking an alley or driveway at any time, that I am aware of.%26quot; The court may give you some slack as your first offense, no harm done, and the officer made a minor mistake on the paperwork. But you should also be prepared to pay the whole fine, which is only fair to the people you have inconvenienced by your unrefined driving habits.

Traffic ticket help: parked blocking an ally or driveway? This is an excerpt I found from the Texas Transportation Code, you can check out the link to read the full version:

    搂 544.007. TRAFFIC-CONTROL SIGNALS IN GENERAL. (a) A

traffic-control signal displaying different colored lights or

colored lighted arrows successively or in combination may display

only green, yellow, or red and applies to operators of vehicles as

    provided by this section.

    (b) An operator of a vehicle facing a circular green signal

may proceed straight or turn right or left unless a sign prohibits

the turn. The operator shall yield the right-of-way to other

vehicles and to pedestrians lawfully in the intersection or an

adjacent crosswalk when the signal is exhibited.

according to (b) sounds like you should have yielded to the dump truck and given him the room to turn.

Tickets suck, especially when it is your first one and the cop won't give a warning. From my experience (in Maryland) I would go to court since your record is clean and maybe the judge will give you a PBJ, Probation Before Judgment. All you would end up paying is the court fees, no ticket fee, and no points to your license.

GOOD LUCK!Traffic ticket help: parked blocking an ally or driveway?believe me pay the ticket. if you go to court. the only way you may win is if the officer does not show up. but it is not looking good. but if you want to take a chance. go for it.Traffic ticket help: parked blocking an ally or driveway?Pay the ticket and get over itTraffic ticket help: parked blocking an ally or driveway? If he gave you a parking ticket, that is much better for you than a traffic ticket, so you should not fight him on this.

He is not required to tell %26quot;how to better handle the situation%26quot;.

You are not supposed to enter an intersection (even with a green light) when traffic is moving slowly enough that you are going to have to stop in the intersection, because the light might turn red, and then you would be blocking the other street.

You are supposed to wait (not in the intersection) until the cars ahead of you are moving, and then go (if the light is still green).Traffic ticket help: parked blocking an ally or driveway? He saw you so pay the ticket

How long would it take a mechanic to do these repairs?

1.)Order 4 SUV tires and put on vehicle

2.) Do a brake job- probably rotors and pads- both axles

3.) Change the camshaft sensor...(causing check engine light)-Engine: 4.0 OHV

The vehicle is a 1999 ford explorer. How long would it take to get this done? On average..How long would it take a mechanic to do these repairs?one afternoon. mounting and balancing tires should only take a half hour, and thats if hes really slow. checking and servicing brakes: around an hour. and camshaft sensor change shouldnt take more than an hour either. so drop it off in the afternoon, and pick it up at closing time. How long would it take a mechanic to do these repairs? All he has to do is goto and tire shop and buy them, or they will usually deliver within an hour.

The whole job would take about 2-3 hours if the tech is experienced. How long would it take a mechanic to do these repairs?brake job 3-4 hours even 4 wheel drive

change tires 1 hr -tire shop or costco

    change camshaft sensor 1hr

one days workHow long would it take a mechanic to do these repairs?i am a mechanic at a tire shop.it should only take a shop 30 min to do tiers and usually they would have another mechanic do the brakes and the brakes should take about 45 min. and the sensor would only take 15 min. so about an hour at the most that's how we do it in our shopHow long would it take a mechanic to do these repairs? It depends if you go somewhere with the tires already but it could take 3 days tops to get the tires in after ordering them. Brake job would take tops of 4-5 hours and sensor i am not sure but you shold go to

What is wrong with my breaks?

i went to a mechanic to change my brake pads.

    wagner premium ceramic brake pads.

anyways, all of a sudden i noticed a weird noise.

when i have my foot on the brake at a red light, if i step on it harder, i hear a weird noise, like i dont know how to explain it. but im sure its the brake pad going on the rotor or something...

also, sometimes when im making a turn, and the wheel is completely turned, i hear a knocking or clicking noise.

its a 2002 Mustang, which makes it a rear wheel drive if this helps any to concluding your answer.

thanks. What is wrong with my breaks? It sounds as if one of the new brake pads is loose. Maybe one of the retainer clips has broken. You need to get it back to the mechanic ASAP.What is wrong with my breaks?could be an actual problem with the brake pads themselvesWhat is wrong with my breaks?you did not say if the mechanic repaired the brakes. if he did then go back to himWhat is wrong with my breaks?1 ABS lite on? may be sensor making abs system work

2 caliper sticking..dont ignore it,,a draging caliper can wreck pad and rotor [[cost me 200 because i ignored the rubbing sound]What is wrong with my breaks?ok so im not an expert but me and my father fix up our cars together and i would suggest that you immediately stop driving it or you might break something. it doesnt seem like a coincidence that the mechanic just worked on it. i would take it back to him and let him or another professional know and look into it right away.

  • Physics problem help?

You are driving to the grocery store at 20 m/s. You are 110 m from an intersection when the traffic light turns red. Assume that your reaction time is 0.50 s and that your car brakes with constant acceleration.

How far are you from the intersection when you begin to apply the brakes?

    __________m

What acceleration will bring you to rest right at the intersection?

    __________m/s

How long does it take you to stop after the light changes?

    __________s

Physics problem help? How far do you travel during the reaction time.

    d = Vt = 20 * .5 = 10 m

Therefore, you were originally 110 m away so now you are 100 - 10 = 100 m away from the intersection when you apply the brakes.

Find the time it would take to stop (where Vf = 0).

    a = (Vf - V0)/t = -V0/t

    d = V0*t + 1/2 at虏

    d = V0*t + 1/2 (-V0/t)*t虏

    d = V0*t + 1/2*-V0*t

    d = 1/2 V0*t

    t = 2d/V0

    t = (2*100)/20 = 10 s

    What is the acceleration

    a = -V0/t = -20/10 = -2 m/s虏

How do i reboot a car's computer when the check engine light comes on?

I drive an '07 chevy trailblazer. the oil was changed a day ago and a few hours later the check engine light came on. one time the mechanic did a reboot of pressing the brake 3times. i want to know if anyone knows this rebooting procedure and how to do it. really don't feel like going all the way to the dealer for a simple fix. please helpHow do i reboot a car's computer when the check engine light comes on?If it is indicating a transient fault (a fault that does not keep happening) it will eventually re-set itself over the course of a few drive cycles. The most common cause for the check engine light to come on in modern vehicles is someone not tightening the gas gap enough to seal. If the cap doesn't seal, it will trigger the check engine light. This is usually resolved by tightening the gas cap and just waiting a couple days.

Alternately, you can have the codes read using a code reader to find out why the light came on in the first place. Many places like Auto Zone or Pep Boys will read the codes on your car for free.

I do not recommend just re-setting it blindly. It came on because a fault was detected and at the very least you should find out why it came on before you re-set the light. How do i reboot a car's computer when the check engine light comes on?The thing with the brake is just to turn off the oil change light. The check engine light can only be turned off by plugging in a scan tool and using it to clear the codes and shut off the light or depending on what the trouble was if it does not occur again within a preset number of starts it may shut itself off if the problem is gone. How do i reboot a car's computer when the check engine light comes on?if the light comes on its not a simple fix, when the light comes on it means there is something wrong with your car.

you can buy a device or go to autozone and get the codes read to see what the problem is, and with that same device you can erase the light.

but no point in doing that because its gonna keep on coming back if your car has a problem.

    Acceleration velocity question?

You are driving to the grocery store at 20m/s. You are 110m from an intersection when the traffic light turns red. Assume that your reaction time is 0.50s and that your car brakes with constant acceleration.

What acceleration will bring you to rest right at the intersection?

How long does it take you to stop after the light changes?

I really dont know what equation to use...Acceleration velocity question?Use v^2 = u^2 - 2as, where v is the final velocity, zero in this case, u the initial velocity, a the acceleration, and s the distance.

Using distance travelled = speed x time, then

    d = 20 X 0.5,

d = 10 m (this is the distance travelled during the reaction time, so the remaining distance, s, is 100m), so

    v^2 = u^2 -2as, so

    0 = (20)^2 - 2 x a x 100, so

    0 = 400 - 200a, so

    200a = 400, so

    a = 2, m/sec/sec.

However since the vehicle is slowing down, it`s a negative acceleration, so the answer is -2 m/sec/sec.

    Hope this helps, Twiggy.

After 8k miles what should be replaced or changed on my car?

i have an 04 civic coupe that i bought with 12000 miles in perfect condition. i have since put on 8k miles as of today and am not sure what i should replace or have looked at. the light is flashing maint requrd once and a while now that i have 8k added on. i know i have to change my oil because the light is on and my gas milage has been severely limited but i was wondering what else i should do to maintain my car and after how many miles i should change the oil and other things such as brake pads and all that. thanks! After 8k miles what should be replaced or changed on my car?Hi, well you use miles and here, we rather use kilometres for servicing(Maintenance schedule). As you mentionned 12000 miles(20 000 Km), I will say that there will be practically no big maintenance schedule for your car on the next 8000 miles(13000Km). It will rather require adjustment/cleaning/replacement concerning:

    1) Oil(Synthetic better) and oil filter to be replaced

    2) spark plugs to be replaced and gapped according to manufacturer's specification after 30 000 Km

    3) Cleaning of air filter--if too dirty replace

    4) Adjustment/check of clearence for your intake/exhaust valves(Does not know whether it is compensated with oil(Automatic adjustment) therefore no adjustment required)

5)Cleck all fluid level(Radiator level(To be renewed each 1 or 2 years...If renewed or not, make sure that your cooling fan starts(Operation to be observed at least 2 times) when your engine is hot and stops when temperature is within it's range) ---brake/clutch level(To be renewed each year if you are in a humid region and each 2 years if you are in dry region)--Power steering level(Inspect fluid level and pipes state)--Battery, electrolyte*** level( ***If it is not a maintenance free one), state and tighteness of cables on terminals(Grease with (vaseline advisable) if too dry---screen washer level (all fluids top up if necessary).

    6) Distributor cap to be cleaned

    7) Belts state(Alternator/powersteering/aircondit?cracks found replaced

    8) Wheels state---Wheel alignement normally to be done each 15000 Km(Depending on your drive style---about each 1 or 2 years)

    9) Brakes state to be inspected(Replaced if worn out)

10)Shaft boots and steering boots to be inspected

11)A look under you car for your exhaust supports state and car body.

12)If paint is scratched some minor parts, do some small touch up to avoid rust. Apply wax on your paint for protection.

    13)Check for wipers state

Well hope that this will give you an idea of the maintenance schedule awaiting for your next 8k miles(13000Km(???)/10 000 Km advisable(6k Miles))..:)After 8k miles what should be replaced or changed on my car?Age is as wearing on a car as mileage. Check your owners manual and do the service that is appropriate to your mileage. When I was a mechanic, I once did an 8,000 mile service on a car that was several years old. The coolant was skunky.

Purely wear items, such as brakes, should not be a problem at 20,000 miles, but it is good to have them checked. Driving styles and terrain can and do effect their wear.

Oil changes are cheap insurance. Again follow the manufacturers recommendations or more often, say every 3,000 miles.

Your gas mileage should not be %26quot;severely limited%26quot; at 20,000 miles. Find out why your mileage has decreased. After 8k miles what should be replaced or changed on my car?Sometines you should only change filters and oil of course the sparkles too and that would be enough but you can also check your brakes and fluids. After 8k miles what should be replaced or changed on my car?I'm not sure what condition the tires were in when you received your car but 8,000 is a good interval to rotate them. After 8k miles what should be replaced or changed on my car?nothing should be replaced on scheduled maint. at 8k. anything mechanical or electrical has a tendency to act up or even break down. take it back were u got it from and have then take a look at it

Can I downshift after I've come to a complete stop?

I just bought a 2009 Kawasaki ninja 250r and I had a question about coming to stops at lights or general intersections:

Say I'm going about 50 and I see the light ahead of me turn red; if I'm in, say, 4th or 5th gear, exactly how am I supposed to downshift through all of those gears to first by the time I stop?

Basically, do I really have to pull in the clutch, down shift to third, let out the clutch, give it some gas, and repeat all the way to first gear? I guess it just seems like I wouldn't have enough time between where I am to where I need to stop to shift that fast between the gears.

My main question is: Could I just pull in the clutch, down shift one gear or so, let out the clutch for some engine braking, then just pull in the clutch and use my brakes to come to a complete stop? Then, while stopped, just downshift all the way to first (basically skipping over two or three gears), and then let out the clutch when the light changes? More importantly, could this damage the bike in any way?

Does that make sense? Can I downshift after I've come to a complete stop?Of course you can. You can just use your brakes to stop, then pull in the clutch and downshift back to first. Or you can pull in the clutch and downshift to neutral while you're coming to a stop. Or you can use the lower gears to help slow you down.

Some bikes, it's not easy to shift when the bike isn't moving. So you get in the habit of shifting down on your way to a stop. But the important thing is to stop when you need to without worrying about it. Sometimes stops aren't planned, like if someone pulls out of a driveway ahead of you (things like this happen all the time because bikes aren't as visible as cars).

If you're sitting at a stop and you're still in a high gear, and you're having trouble shifting down, I find it helps to let the clutch out just a tiny bit, not enough to move but to feel it slip just a bit, and that helps it shift down through the gears. Can I downshift after I've come to a complete stop?First, it is a sequential transmission, you don't skip gears. Come to a stop in 5th and you have to go through 4th, 3rd and 2nd before getting into first -- easier when rolling.

Second, you do not start your stopping when you see a light turn red. There's this amber light thing that comes on prior to the red. As you approach a light, should pick a point at which if you pass it with the light still green you will continue through the light on the amber. You should be looking a quarter mile to a couple of miles ahead and be adjusting your speed so as to not have to stop at red lights. If you do have to stop you should have plenty of time to slow through the gears.

And no, you do not need to use the clutch. Close the throttle and slow down with engine braking, put a bit of pressure on the shift lever and give the throttle a little blip and you'll slip down a gear without the clutch. Repeat as needed right down into first. Might want to lightly apply the brake to tell anyone behind you that you are stopping. Can I downshift after I've come to a complete stop?well i havent made my way to crotchrockets since im only 14 but when i ride my dirtbike from a path to a path down a road to slow down all i do is pull the clutch in a drop to first then start to slow down but my freind dont slow down when he shifts his 400 ex so he grinds that crap outta the gears

  • Can someone help me with some driving safty questions??

    1. When you are driving, you might see things that are problems, things that might become problems %26amp; things that wont be a problem. How should you react?

    2. The car gets to a 4-way stop 1st has the right away. Should you count on other cars waiting when u have the right away? How do you handle it when you dont know if they will wait?

    3. How do road conditons affect the way you drive?

    4. What order should you do these when changing lanes?

    a) look over your shoulder

    b) signal

    c) be aware of other cars (look around)

    d) change lanes

    e) check your mirrors

    5. How do road conditons affect the space you need to stop?

    6. Does it matter if your car has ABS braks? Why?

    7. How to find out if your car has ABS brakes?

    8. In what situation should you pump your brakes? Light or hard %26amp;%26amp; how is it different for people with ABS brakes? Can someone help me with some driving safty questions??1. Depends on what you see. If you see things that are not problems than who cares. When something goes wrong the best thing to do is not panic and make sure you have your car under control.

    2. Once I come to a 4 way stop I make sure no one was there first, if there is no one there I go, If I see someone coming I wait a little bit longer to make sure they are slowing down and than I go.

    3. Road conditions mean everything. Rain, Snow, Fog drive slower and more carefully, Rain and Snow affect a cars handling and braking. Also Fog rain snow affect visibility so you have to drive slower because you can see what is going on in front of you as well as a normal day.

    4. You should always be checking what is going on around you all the time, I always check all three of my mirrors at least once every minute even if I am not planning on changing lanes.

First you signal, than check your mirrors, than check your blind spots, than change lanes once it is clear.

    5. Again rain, snow makes it harder to stop because the car will slip more. The more rain or snow the slower you need to go because it will take a lot longer for the car to stop.

6 and 7. All newer cars have ABS, yes ABS helps ALOT! ABS brakes are a great thing. Just ask the person selling it to you are any mechanical/dealer ship.

    8. With ABS brakes you DONT pump your brakes just hit them as hard as you can, the ABS will prevent a skid or loss of control. Never pump your brakes. This is one problem car crash investigators have found in accidents. For some reason people who are in accidents much of the time don檛 hit the brakes all the way. Just slam on the brakes.

For a car without ABS hit the brakes but if you need to steer than you will have to let go for a second and pump.

Again ABS brakes are great and you should never buy a car without them, unless it is a classic car.

Also one more thing, don檛 forget on the highways Left lane is for passing only unless it is being used as a HOV lane. Don檛 cruise in the left lane, just pass and go back to the right lanes. If someone wants to pass you move over the next lane and let them pass.

Drive safe. hope this helps. Can someone help me with some driving safty questions??I suggest getting a driving theory handbook, it has all the questions and answers for all questions asked during a theory test. 8, depends on how fast you wanna stopCan someone help me with some driving safty questions??1. Always drive safely and pay attention to everything that's going on that affects where you are driving.

    2. Bever assume that other drivers will be obedient to the laws ... you need to be both correct with respect to the laws, and safe with respect to other drivers who include maniacs and careless people.

    3. When road conditions are perfect, then use the speed limits, road signs, and other traffic as a guide to your behavior. As road conditions deteriorate, such as poor visibility, night time, bad weather, pot holes, traffic jams, then slow down according to the impaired conditions.

    4. First find out if it is practical to make your lane change ... if you are going to have to go several blocks %26amp; can't move, it can be distracting to other drivers if you signalling. Then when it appears that a lane change is doable, turn on your signal, then check again and do not actually switch lanes until it is safe to do so, then when you where you want to be, make sure the turn signal is off again. You need to be aware of other cards around you, whether you are changing lanes or not, be aware ALL the time. Be aware both by using your mirrors, and by occasionally looking over your shoulder..

    5. Visibility affects how likely you are to see trouble up ahead.

Slick roads, such as from recent rain, affects how rapidly you can slow down, or maneuver, when the roads are slippery.

    6. I am not familiar with ABS brakes.

    7. Every car comes with an owner's manual issued by the manufacturer, which explains all aspects of the car and its instrumentation in more detail than most anyone might need. Read it, get familiar with it. You should have done this before you drove any car for the first time.

    8. I have not pumped my brakes in decades. If I need to slow down, I do so. If there is some tail gater behind me, I slow down before I need to slow down because of what is ahead.

For example, I am tooling along at 55 mph, and the road ahead is clear ... no problems.

I see this clown behind me like about 1/2 a car lenght, so I gradually slow down until we are doing 10 mph, which I consider to be safe speed for 1/2 a car length.

Before we get there, the tail gater usually passes me, and gives me the finger. Good, I got rid of that maniac. I increase speed again to what is safe for local conditions.

This way, if I happen across something where I need to stop suddenly, I do not have to worry about the tail gaters, because I got rid of them before I got in the situation where I need to stop in a hurry.

Failure to obey traffic signal ticket in TN?

I received ticket in TN for failure to obey a traffic signal. I wasn檛 speeding and entered the intersection when the light was still yellow. There were very wet streets and there were puddles of water in the road. I was about 10-12 feet from the white line when the light turned yellow and was afraid of sliding with the wet roads if I braked too hard. The officer said I was in the intersection when yellow, but was under the opposite light when light changed to red. He was at a right angle so I檓 not sure how he clearly saw the light, but I thought as long as you didn檛 enter the intersection during the red light it wasn檛 illegal. Who is right? I am really thinking of contesting this ticket, as I did what I thought was safest for me and my family that was with me (not sliding on wet roads). Plus I don't think I broke a law. I should add I have a spotless driving record. Any suggestions? I also should add the officer wrote the wrong section # on the ticket. He wrote 9-403 which is something about making a left hand turn. Didn't know if that made a difference or if he could just correct it.Failure to obey traffic signal ticket in TN?just explain it to the judge ,you were trying to be safe on a wet road.

South Africans now entered in F1 GP?

Ferrari Formula 1 racing team recently fired their whole pit crew to

employ a few young guys from the Soweto township in South Africa. This sudden reaction was due to a TV documentary showing how young Sowetans could take a car's wheels off within 6 seconds, without any fancy equipment.

Ferrari soon regretted their decision, however, as the young men not

only changed the wheels within 6 seconds, but 12 seconds later the

car had been re-sprayed and sold to the McLaren team.

Still eager to compete in the race and, since Ferrari no longer had

a Formula 1 car to race with, they decided to race a Sowetan minibus

taxi, complete with an experienced (yet unlicensed) driver and Fare collector, in the Grand Prix.

Of course they easily won the race, since the minibus weaved its way through the start grid, set off before the lights changed and didn't bother to change the tyres when they wore out. It also took all corners at maximum speed, as the brakes were non-existent. On the way to victory, the new Ama-Ferrari-Ferrari team also managed to hijack several competitors' cars, and picked up 35 passengers at some notoriously dangerous spots, including blind rises, as well as in the chicane.

We can be proud of another South African sporting achievement which will put us at the forefront of sporting historySouth Africans now entered in F1 GP?hahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
