the latch quit working. i can open the window but the %26quot;door%26quot; will not open. the latch just slaps back and forth when i try to use it. i am trying to change out the left brake light (not to mention it would just be nice to be able to open the damn door)!. aNY help would be most appreciated! How do you fix the rear door handle on a 2000 ford explorer. the latch quit working!?it sounds like the handle may be broken.

Open the glass and there should be a cap looking thing. under that should be a philips screw under that. Undo this and gently plastic trim and panel surrounding the door. Pull on this carefully as the clips are not replaceable. (You would need a whole new liftgate cover.) There are more screws on the bottom but you cant get to them until you can get the door open. You need to just reach down and feel for the rod that would be running between the latch or the handle. Pull/push it down. This should open the tailgate so that you can get the panel off to replace the part.
