How much is it to fix pistons?

I have a bit of a problem. today i was going to do an oil change when right when i got off the free way my car had made this clanking sound like something was hitting it. i hadnt been able to change the oil in like 2 weeks after the car had the oil change light on so i knew that it had to b the oil, lucky when i got out of freeway i saw an oil repair shop. i got an oil change and it was good but after i started moving the car again it made another clanking noise which im assuming it is a piston clap i looked it up on youtube and for sure its the same noise. now im wondering how much it would cost to fix it. my father keeps on talking about getting the rings fixed and something about grinding it i didnt quite understand him. also when i got out of the shop i had to drive it over to my house thinking it might brake down because when i was driving over it was making the clapping noise. is it possible to still drive it like that for like 2 days max? to me that question sounds kind of dumb but eh you never know. How much is it to fix pistons?Sounds like you ran the engine with no oil and you spun a crank bearing. This is big bucks if it is the problem. The engine gets removed , drop the oil pan, unbolt the main bearing caps and remove and replace the bearings. Also need to send the crank out to be cut because of scoring. can you say buy a new motor???

maybe this will help.... www.car-part.com and look for a replacement engine.

good luck....How much is it to fix pistons? You ran the engine with no oil. Ballgames over. When the light comes on you must add oil immediately. You need a new engine rebuilding would cost just as much. Your engine is fried. How much is it to fix pistons?ask a mechanic to check your cam.

if your pistons are bad, the engine will drastically loose power, emit smoke and might not even run.How much is it to fix pistons?Pistons? im guessing you mean one of the cylinders is having one of a vast variety of problems - This isn't really something anyone is going to be able to tell you online without taking a look (or give you an accurate estimate)

If the general feel of the car is more %26quot;lumpy%26quot; and it's making an awful banging noise, but it still drives, as you mentioned, it %26quot;might%26quot; be fixable, otherwise sod knows - i'd have though one of the cylinders %26quot;breaking%26quot;, or in any way going wrong would be a major problem, but i couldn't really tell what you meant from what you asked. Not sure if you meant in your question also it was burning oil ridiculously fast or leaking or something, or even if you thought there was a problem with the gearbox as you mentioned grinding.

My advice would be get it to a garage and get a proper estimate. How much is it to fix pistons?I don't think you are hearing piston slap. More like a rod knocking. Piston slap generally occurs after a long period of time and the cylinders get worn to an oval shape. The sound is the still round piston rocking back and forth in the too loose hole. Rod knock occurs from rod bearing damage/failure and usually happens from running low on oil or over-revving the engine.

Either way, you are looking at a complete engine rebuild or a replacement engine. there is a reason cars have these lights on them people, pay attention to them.
